Flowing from peace is my happy place
While mist whisps gently against my face
Exhale
Cold water washes away any tension
Living the moment in full attention
Inhale
You are ashes and to ashes you shall return
It's time to leave away any concern
Exhale
I will be back soon, I’m sure
But for now I’m secure
Inhale
Go make a difference through the door
For its fantasy that will bring us candor
Exhale
Leaville, Colorado. Home away from home. Camphale is where my family has been camping for generations, and where a lot of my deceased kin are spread. I could walk the valley blindfolded and tell apart where each tree and rock stands. A truly majestic and indescribable place, here everyone seems to have their own special spot that they become one with nature - and this is mine.
Along the Colorado Trail, a strong little waterfall tumbles over smooth rocks, just a short twenty-minute hike away, and standing before its rushing waters is my happy place. My worries wash away, gone like they never existed. Something about the air, the feel of the breeze, the cold water makes me feel so connected, so clear.
Honoring that clarity and the history woven into my life, this work acts as the source for my clouds, drifting across the world carrying with them all that I am in identity, in family, and in belief. The Cherubs symbolize faith, while the hummingbird, rocking horsefly, and kite embody childhood whimsicality.
When we open our eyes from our happy place, when we have to walk back down the hill, we don’t have to leave that feeling behind. We carry it with us. We let it guide us. We go make a difference, bringing light to all good things.
What is your happy place trying to tell you?
