It was my last night on Oahu, and I couldn't just sit in the hotel room! So, I took myself out on a date - I got dressed, did my hair, and marched myself down the crowded Waikiki strip. I couldn't help but feel proud. The past week, a high school graduation gift from my parents, had been nothing short of bliss.
Tonight, however, they themselves were out on a romantic cruise, and while I could have stayed in - which was very much like me - I chose instead to go enjoy my evening. After a scrumptious dinner and a bit of shopping, I found my way to a quiet spot beneath a palm tree. Stretching my legs out on the white sands I sat and watched the gorgeous sunset, soaking in the beauty of the moment and embracing life for all it had to offer.
Choice celebrates those moments of independent living. The ship in the painting is named Belief because, unfortunately, so many - adults particularly - sink their own belief just before reaching magic. Who knows why? Fear, perhaps. Twelve birds fly low in the sky, representing the twelve paintings in my thesis, as well as connections to time and apostles. From swimming the deepest oceans to jumping over the moon, imagination can truly take us anywhere.
Finally, the castle comes from a beloved story of mine that very much has been a home to me - a place where so much of my fantastical reality has been born. A place where just because something is happening inside your head, doesn't mean that it is not real.
